Title | Letter from C.A. Hohn of John Bourne & Co to Isambard Kingdom Brunel |
Description | Written from John Bourne & Co, Greenock. The letter reminds Brunel of his previous meeting with Hohn regarding Hohn's design for the screw propeller, describes the elements that make his propeller special and suggests how Brunel can get a copy of a drawing of Hohn's propeller. The letter also lists the various vessels that incorporate his propeller design including the Alma and the Barwon and comments on some experiments that have been made between the common screw propeller design and Hohn's. The letter also gives some of Hohn's credentials and explains that the source of his interest in the efficiency of screw propellers stems from the relative inefficiency of the screw propeller used in the trials of the ship the Rattler. |
