Title | Memorandum for I.K. Brunel, Esq. |
Description | The memo lists the power of vessels currently used by the Peninsular & Oriental company on different parts of their routes, the coal consumption on different parts of the routes and the amount of wastage and a margin note lists the coaling stations. The memo also answers the questions posed by Brunel relating to the differing costs of passage to India by three different methods: a return voyage from Southampton to India including an overland element, by steam to India via the Cape of Good Hope and by sail to India via the Cape of Good Hope. The answers cover different types and ages of passenger, different berthing arrangements and charges for additional luggage and there is a pencil note on Folio 94 commenting on the phraseology used in relation to children's berthing arrangements. |
