Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Scott Russell |
Description | Written from 18 Duke Street, London. The letter confirms in writing Brunel's previous conversation with Russell reporting on the meeting of the Court of Directors of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company regarding the choice of contractors. The letter confirms that the directors have instructed Brunel to communicate with Russell regarding the building of the paddle engines and the ship's hull and with James Watt & Co regarding the building of the screw engine. The letter also explains the restrictions that are preventing the Directors from immediately entering into contracts and the various conditions that will have to be met before the Directors can begin entering into contracts and some terms relating to the contractor holding shares in the vessel that they are building that will have to be incorporated into any agreement. The letter has a pencil annotation at the head of the letter with a precis of the contents. |
