There are specifications for the Screw Engine, the Paddle Engine and the Boilers. The specification covers the horsepower, usual and upper limits of the stroke rate of the engine and the pressure and the commensurate boiler specifications as well as assumptions about the components that are assumed to be included in the engine or work which it is assumed that the contractor building the engines will undertake. The specification for the boiler includes the materials to be used and the general arrangements for completion and delivery.
