Title | Letter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to Professor C. Piazzi Smyth |
Description | Written from 18 Duke Street, London. The letter wonders what name they should give to Piazzi Smyth's Marine Circle instrument and comments on the use and construction of the instrument, wonders if it would be possible to reduce the weight of the device and suggests some other possible alterations or improvements to the device and the way it is constructed. These alterations are illustrated with some small sketches on Folio 372. The letter also discusses Smyth's proposed instrument stand and describes some experiments that Brunel is running on the sort of design that might be adopted and explains that Brunel has commissioned a version of a particular design from his friend Mr Armstrong. |
