| Description | Written from the Eastern Steam Navigation Company at 13 Gresham Street, London. The original letter was accompanied by a letter from John Scott Russell reiterating his request to the Directors of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company to modify his contract. Yates' letter offers to meet with Brunel and C. Freshfield, the Company's solicitor, before Brunel reports to the Company Directors. Following Yates' letter is a copy of a letter from John Scott Russell, also dated 28 December 1854 which explains how the death of Mr Geach has affected Russell's ability to maintain the terms of his contract with the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and requests a modification of his contract in the light of these circumstances. |
