TitleLetter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Yates at the Eastern Steam Navigation Company
DescriptionWritten from 18 Duke Street, London. The letter apologises for missing a committee meeting but hopes that John Scott Russell will be an able deputy for Brunel and lists the answers to several questions that have been asked of Brunel. The letter estimates the cost of completing the vessel along with a contingency fund and lists the details of tonnage of coal and cargo that could be stored in such a sized vessel and the possible passenger numbers as well as an estimation of the possible speed of such a vessel. There is a pencil annotation at the top of the letter giving a single-line precis of the contents. The addressee may be a mis-spelling of John Yates (the secretary of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company).
