Description | Written from 18 Duke Street, London. The letter expresses the importance of getting the formation of the boiler being planned for the Eastern Steam Navigation Company's great ship exactly correct for both Brunel's and Blake's professional reputations. The letter explains Brunel's opinions as to the best designs to use and the factors that make the best boiler. Brunel challenges some of the figures that Blake has used in his design for the engine and explains why Brunel feels that these designs or figures are wrong. The second and third pages of the letter have small sketches illustrating Brunel's points. The first page has been numbered as Folio 184a by hand and the subsequent pages are un-numbered.
