TitleResolution from a meeting of the Court of Directors of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company
DescriptionWritten from the Eastern Steam Navigation Company at 1 Royal Exchange Buildings, London. The resolution records the unanimous appointment of Isambard Kingdom Brunel as Engineer to the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and that all the arrangements for the company be made with an assumption that the company's ships will be travelling direct to Calcutta [Kolkata]. Brunel is authorised to investigate whether Captain Claxton is willing to travel to India to collect information on behalf of the company and the directors. A final resolution authorises Brunel to make preliminary enquiries relating to prices for iron, timber and other materials for the ship. The resolutions are signed by John Yates, secretary of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company. The signature has been added later due to the insertion of Folio 18a which left the original signature (now crossed through) stranded on Folio 19.
