TitleLetter from Isambard Kingdom Brunel to John Yates, secretary of the Eastern Steam Navigation Company
DescriptionWritten from 18 Duke Street, London. The letter confirms that Brunel and Yates have had a discussion that resulted in the determination of the size and character of the ship being planned for the Eastern Steam Navigation Company and the proposed routes and possible calling points and confirms that Brunel is to prepare drawings and a scheme for getting tenders for the work on the ship but emphasises the need to open discussions with the South Wales and Great Western Railways to ensure the work on the pier is completed and also to arrange for potentially advantageous terms to transfer passengers, luggage and cargo to the ship. The letter also explains that certain questions were not discussed at a previous meeting since several of the committee members were not present.
