DescriptionA series proposed in 1958. Aimed at the intelligent 14 year old or the interested layman, with text and illustrations being of equal importance. The series was abandoned with proposed titles being published in the Miscellaneous Q series and the Pelican series.

Correspondence between John Curtis (Art Editor, Penguin), Paul Reilly (Deputy Director, The Council of Industrial Design) and Sir Hugh Casson concerning a proposed book on design for a new series of Picture Pelican books, 14 May 1958-25 November 1959.

The correspondence concerns a proposed book on design which Penguin commissioned Paul Reilly to write but which was not considered suitable for the series. Sir Hugh Casson was then approached but declined the invitation. Mention is made of other proposed titles in the series: Artificial Satellites [by Michael W. Ovenden, published as Q23 in April 1961], Modern Medicine [by David Margerson, published as Medicine Today Q24 in November 1961], Architecture by William Tatton Brown, Archaeology by Liam de Paor [appeared as a Pelican A859 in May 1967], and Fashion by Madge Garland [published as Q26 in April 1962].

Includes Paul Reilly's synopsis of 'Design in the Twentieth Century'.
